The Ghost and the Glow is an industrial composite based on the fascinating mix of scenes in Sarnia, Ontario. I'd been in the area briefly a couple of years ago as I crossed the border from Port Huron in Michigan. As we drove across the Blue Water Bridge, which is the ghostly bridge in this image, I was dumbfounded by the sight of what looked like a thousand smoke stacks in the distance. Absolutely riveting! I was completely mesmerised by the place, especially as there are now so few sights like that in Canada now. As with anything though, there are many sides to the story.
On this visit I was able to take in more of "chemical valley" but also other parts of the city, including the lovely waterfront. Back down by the Blue Water Bridge, on a brilliantly sunny day, I was struck by the serenity of it all but also by the water tower over in Port Huron, glistening in the sun. I've tried to keep that prominent in this image, in which I've pulled together a few features you can see just in that small area beneath the bridge.
